Annual Report for the year ending 31st December 2003

St Luke’s Prayer

Background

The PCC and the Shared Ministry Team have the responsibility of co-operating with the incumbent, the Rev David Trollope in promoting in the Parish the whole mission of the church - its worship, growth and care, evangelism as well as  its outreach and Ecumenical co-operation and St Luke’s Halsall school. The SMT are the Rev Barbie Chambers and the Rev Margaret Quayle (Curates), Mr Alan Lewney (Lay Reader), Mr Peter Owen, Mrs Sandra Tickle (Churchwardens), Mr Eric Linford (Treasurer), Mrs Shirley Wallin (Administrator).

The PCC also has maintenance responsibility for the Church, Church Hall and Parish Centre at 71 Liverpool Road, Crosby.

The PCC is a Charity exempted from registration with the Charity Commission.

Committees

The PCC works closely with the Shared Ministry Team, the Standing Committee & the Premises Committee. The Standing Committee meets as required between PCC meetings to transact business guided by the PCC.

Church Attendance

There are 338 parishioners on the church Electoral Roll in 2003. 176 lived in the parish and 162 lived outside. This was an increase of 29 since 2002.

Allowing for those who come more than once about 190 different adults attended on a Sunday in 2003. A further 22 adults attended the Wednesday 10.30 am Holy Communion.

Review of the year

Since the last Annual Parochial Church Council Meeting the PCC has held six meetings and two extraordinary meetings called to discuss issues relating to the interregnum and the appointment of a new vicar.

There was an average attendance of two clergy and seventeen lay members at each meeting.

This year matters discussed included:-

Finance

The total resources used for running all the activities of St Luke's church were £188,725.

The total incoming resources were £181,463.

The giving of the congregation was £133,501.

A total of £38,230 was given away to other charities.

The PCC has reserves equivalent to two months normal expenditure.

The PCC encourage every member of St Luke’s Church to give 5% of their income after tax to the church and 5% to other charities.

The Fabric of the Church and the Hall

During 2003 the Maintenance Team continued their good work. Most of their time is spent cleaning the inside of the church and maintaining the graveyard and the rest of the grounds.

During the year the North Transept of the church was re-ordered. The floor was carpeted, the pews were replaced by chairs, and a ramp was installed to give access for wheelchairs and buggies. The interior of the church was redecorated.

Church Grounds. The church drive and the main car park were retarmacked during the year. The new Crossroads Centre was built on an area of St Luke’s grounds adjacent to the Church Hall and leased to the Crossroads Trustees.

Church Hall. Replacement of windows and external decoration continued in 2003.
