THE PARISH OF ST LUKE GREAT CROSBY

Minutes of a Meeting of Parishioners
held in St Luke's Church Hall, on Wednesday 30 April 2003 at 8:00 pm
for the purpose of electing Churchwardens

1. Prayer

The Vicar took the chair and opened the meeting with prayer.

2. Notice Convening Meeting

After opening the meeting the Vicar informed those present that the notice convening the meeting had been on view in church and was available for inspection.

3. Minutes

The minutes of the 2002 meeting, previously circulated, were taken as read. It was proposed by Hilary Roberts, seconded by Jackie Jones, and unanimously agreed that the minuted be accepted and signed.

4. Election of Churchwardens

The Vicar announced that two valid nominations had been received for the two positions of Churchwarden: Peter Owen and Sandra Tickle. It was proposed by Dawn D’Auvin , seconded by Christa Trollope and unanimously agreed that they both be declared elected.

5. Vote of Thanks

Sandra Tickle said that this, her first full year as churchwarden, had been a steep learning curve, and thanked her predecessor, Linda Moore, for her constant support and encouragement. She also expressed her personal thanks to Peter Owen, David and the clergy, and to the rest of the congregation for their patience and help throughout the year.

On behalf of both wardens, Sandra added that although it was not possible to name everyone individually, many people give freely of their time and talents at St Luke’s in a variety of different ways, and each one is valued and appreciated. She thanked all of the sidespeople, and in particular the team leaders and all those who have taken on extra responsibility at the 11 o’clock service, or help “behind the scenes”, including the musicians, OHP and sound operators and the welcome team.

Sandra went on to thank all those who look after our buildings and grounds, including Paul Roocroft, John Morris, Hal Whitaker and the maintenance team; Agnes and David Law and the cleaners. She thanked the ladies who are responsible for the beautiful flower arrangements in church, and wished them well as they prepare for the Flower Festival in October, which will be the start of the St Luke’s 150th Anniversary Celebrations.

Sandra said that Eric Linford deserved special mention in his role as treasurer. He is a valued member of the Standing Committee and SMT, and carries out his duties with great enthusiasm, diligence and good humour. Both Sandra and Peter were extremely grateful for Eric’s hard work, and were aware that if it weren’t for Eric, the treasurer’s duties would fall to them.

Finally, she thanked Joyce Wade who will shortly be retiring as parish administrator, for everything she has done for St Luke’s, and welcomed Joyce’s successor, Shirley Wallin. She was sure that Shirley would appreciate the help of the team of willing volunteers who regularly help in the office, as Joyce had, and she ended by wishing Joyce a very long, happy and healthy retirement.
