THE DIOCESAN REVIEW

The Prayers of Intercession

These prayers were used at the Conference held at the Cathedral on
1 December 2001 and are available for use across the diocese.

In the power of the Spirit and in union with Christ
let us pray to the Father.

Lord, come to bless us:

All: And fill us with your Spirit.

Generous God, we thank you for the power of your Holy Spirit.
We ask that, in our churches and in our diocese,
    in our homes and families,
in our places of work and leisure,
we may be strengthened to serve you better.

Lord, come to bless us:

All: And fill us with your Spirit.

We thank you for the wisdom of your Spirit.
We ask that you help us to understand better
your will for us and for our diocese,
and especially that you will grant wisdom
to those whose recommendations and decisions
    will shape our future.

Lord come to bless us:

All: And fill us with your Spirit.

We thank you for the peace of your Holy Spirit.
We ask you to keep us confident of your love
wherever and however you call us to serve you.
Help us not to be fearful
of the challenges and changes that lie before us,
    but to face new opportunities
    with hope and determination.

Lord come to bless us:

All: And fill us with your Spirit.

We thank you for the healing of your Holy Spirit.
We ask you to bring reconciliation and wholeness
wherever difficult decisions lead to difference or division.
In all our rich diversity, bring us to that unity
that is your will for your people.

Lord, come to bless us:

All: And fill us with your Spirit.

We thank you for the gifts of your Holy Spirit
We ask you to help us recognize and use all the gifts
which you have given to each and every one of your people,
And raise up among us
those who will be prophets, visionaries and leaders
in doing the work you have entrusted to us.

Lord, come to bless us:

All: And fill us with your Spirit.

We thank you for the fruit of your Holy Spirit.
We ask that you reveal in all our lives, the love of Jesus,
that we may know where our strength and hope truly lies,
and take that fruit to those
who have yet to hear the Good News.

Lord, come to bless us.

All: And fill us with your Spirit.

We thank you for the breath of your Holy Spirit.
We ask you to breathe new life into your church here
that visions and dreams may become a reality,
and the whole church live and grow to praise your name.

Lord, come to bless us:

All: And fill us with your Spirit.

Gathering our prayers and praises into one
let us pray as our Saviour taught us:

All: Our Father
who art in heaven ...
