HOW CAN I SERVE THE PURPOSE OF GOD?

Pete shared with the Annual Parish Church Meeting (APCM) plans for a new Shared Ministry Team (SMT) which had already been endorsed by the Parochial Church Council (PCC).

The mission and ministry of any church is shared between clergy and laity. It's a recognition that everyone has gifts and that God calls each one of us to serve him. No-one can serve him quite like us! An SMT would be evidence of this fact.

What would the SMT do?

  • They would be responsible for various areas of church life which the PCC have agreed are priorities.
  • They would be asked to develop each of these areas under the guidance of the PCC.
  • They would meet on a regular basis not only to work together but also to support each other in this.
  • They would, as a body and as individuals, have a clear idea of what is expected of them.

Pete would also meet with each member to support them.

What are those areas?

Administration, cell groups, pastoral, worship, buildings, welcome (evangelism), children/youth.

What sort of people could do this?

Anyone who wants to follow Jesus, to become more like him, to love others and to work together as a team.

This sounds a tall order…

Yes it is, but every Christian should be aiming for these qualities. In fact, being a member of the SMT would be a way of achieving these qualities. It will probably involve dropping other church commitments so that you can concentrate on SMT. Other people will need to step into your shoes as a result so all are involved!!

How do I find out more?

  • Have a word with Pete or leave a note in his pigeon hole/office and he can talk to you further.
  • Invite Pete to your cell group and spend an evening discussing it with him.
  • Use the cell group notes provided to think through some of the issues.
  • Have a chat with a PCC member.

What else can I do?

  • Pray, pray and pray that people will respond to God's call.
  • Encourage others to think and pray about serving on the SMT.

What would happen next?

If you were willing for your name to be put forward, it would be circulated to the PCC in confidence and the standing committee would put forward names to be selected at the PCC meeting at the end of June.

We believe that God is challenging us to step up and step out in faith and step into what God has planned for us here at St Luke's and in Crosby.

We believe that the successful implementation of a new SMT will enhance so much of what happens inand through us.
