Homegroup Leaders' Notes for 27 February 2005

Aim To increase our awareness of others as we try to share our faith.
Welcome What kind of people were you told to avoid when you were growing up? Who do you avoid now and why?
Worship Sing Lord make me an instrument (Mission Praise 437). Or play a Christian song encouraging us to go in his name to others.
Word

Read John 4:5-42
[Tapes are available of Phil Potter's talk.]

God can break into any situation. Many believed because of this incident. What was the process that brought this about?

1 Prejudice
We need to meet with those we may not like or go where they live.
Why were the disciples amazed at Jesus talking to this woman?
What does it mean in practical terms to be an ambassador for Christ?
Are you willing to try to be at home with others you do not know?

2 Opportunities
We need to open our eyes to see the fields ready to harvest. The disciples only saw the messed up rejected woman.
Four tools
a) Power of Persuasion.
b) Power of invitation Do you ever invite others to come and see?
c) Power of demonstration. What do people see when they look us?
d) Power of Salvation. Jesus is the sower who has already done the work. Can we see the potential or are we focussed on the problems? Do we see the problems or do we see the opportunities?

3 Potential
God can fill us with his power to witness if we trust him we have huge potential. Do we believe this ?

Witness Pray that God will open our eyes to opportunities. Ask him to change your hearts and take away your prejudice. Ask God to fill you with his love and power and help you to be a true ambassador for Christ.
