Cell Group Values - Study 5
E Encountering God
Welcome Did you grow up in an openly "religious" home? Were you taught any prayers as a child? What was the earliest one you can recall?
Worship

Write out the five "let us" statements from Hebrews 10: 23-25 on pieces of paper. You may need to write each of them out twice. Pass out the pieces of paper and spend a few minutes meditating on them maybe with some quiet music playing. Pass them round to the next person and then at the end invite people to pray a short prayer based on one of the statements.

Word

Read Mark 10: 46-52

It is suggested that a better way of translating the question from Jesus to the blind man is "What would you really like me to do for you?"

1. Do you think it matters how much we expect to meet with God when we come to cell group or church?

2. Do we get irritated if things are not to our taste? Does this prevent us from receiving from God and if so what can we do about it?

3. As Christians the way into the presence of God is open to us. What can make us feel unwilling or unable to meet with him?

4. Is it possible that we sometimes don't want God to meet with us, or that a real encounter with God might be too challenging for us? If so why?

5. Jesus has promised us his Spirit to help us day by day and he tells us that we must worship in spirit and in truth (John 4:23-24). How can we worship in spirit and in truth?

Witness

To what extent does the life of your group overflow to others who are on the outside of the group? Have you arranged an event yet to enable that to happen? If so, are you encouraged? If not, what are the difficulties in arranging this? Ask God to teach you more in this area.
