  1: Love one another
Aim To challenge ourselves by studying what the Bible has to say about how we should love one another in practice. We will do this over several weeks using passages of scripture containing the words one another.
Welcome Tell the group about somebody's home where you have been made to feel very welcome. What made or makes that home special?
Worship Sing the song "A new commandment I give unto you" [Mission Praise 1]. Read Psalm 133 together, close your eyes and imagine the warm soft flow of oil or dew upon your head. Let your tensions go away and then thank God for the love you have received during your life.
Word

Read John 15:9-17

People in the 70s often felt that the song "All you need is love" expressed in words a desire within the younger generation to change things for the better. Some things got better, some things get worse. Is it true to say that "All you need is love" and what does this mean?

Is love simply a feeling or can you love others even if you do not feel great affection for them?

In what ways does the life of Jesus act as a guide to us as we try to understand what it means to love one another? Think about the following.

a) Jesus was interested in others.
b) His love was not diminished by the failings of others.
c) His love did not dwell in the comfort zone.
d) His love was determined.
e) His love caused him to lay down his life.
f) His love did not discriminate.

Discuss some of these aspects.

Witness Pray that God will change our hearts and give us a love for others that will move us out of our comfort zone. Pray in silence for someone you know who needs help. Offer up these people together to God without mentioning their name. Finish with a time of open prayer.
