Seek the Kingdom |
|
| Welcome | Invite each member of the group to share the answer to the following question in two parts: In 2008, what are you looking forward most to in your own life and in the life of St Luke's? |
| Worship | Seek ye first the Kingdom of God is a popular song based on Matthew 6:33. Sing it together or in a round (!). Then begin to focus on Jesus as King and ponder the ways in which he is a king like no other. You could finish by singing together The Servant King. |
| Word | Read Revelation 21:1-4 - John had this vision of the future which was given to him by God and in knowledge of which we live. a) Genesis 1:1 tells us that God created the heavens and the earth - why does he create a new heaven and a new earth, do you think? What's wrong with the present ones? b) What do the new heaven and earth look like? Why is the bridal image appropriate? c) What aspects of the new heaven and earth appeal to you most of all? Read Matthew 3:1-2 and Matthew 4:12-17 a) What do you understand the Kingdom of Heaven to be? b) How has the Kingdom of Heaven 'come near'. c) Why do people need to repent? Read Matthew 6:7-10 a) If God's will was done on earth as it is in heaven, what would happen? (make a list of as many things as you can and back up your answers from the Bible). |
| Witness | Looking back at the list of things you have made, which of these things are you going to resolve as a group to pray for and work towards. Be as specific as possible. Jesus's call to 'seek the kingdom' implies diligence and hard work!! |
