Word

Read Matthew 13:31-35

1. What was the key theme of the message of Jesus? (Matthew 4:17) Why would this be so relevant to his listeners? How aware do you think they would have been of the Old Testament prophecies about the Messiah?

2. Read Matthew 13:51-53.
Jesus taught in many parables and each one gives us a different viewpoint on the Kingdom. Is it better to try to fit them all together in your mind or do you find it easier to concentrate on them one at a time and learn the particular message it teaches?

3. Even the disciples found it hard to understand why Jesus did not act as they expected (Acts 1:6). Are we sometimes too impatient to allow God to work slowly in our lives? Do we want to be part of something immediate and dramatic or are we willing to wait? If not why not?

4. Have you ever said, "Change me God"? If you feel able, discuss ways in which you need to change. Sometimes God says, "I will plant a seed. It will take a lifetime." What do you think of this statement? Can you see how God's Kingdom has started with a baby and ended with a Kingdom that encircles the Globe.

5. In verse 33 Jesus compares his kingdom to yeast. Yeast is almost undetectable but the results it produces are very effective. Do you feel your life is quite exciting or very humdrum?

Witness Pray for some of the people you find it hard to be alongside. Ask God to give you patience in your home, church, or place of work. Ask God to give you the opportunity through word and deed to be salt and light to those around you. Repent for those times you have failed and be prepared to change.
