God's Call
2: Discovering Your Gifts

Welcome What is your favourite TV programme at the moment and why?
Worship

Use Psalm 8 to meditate on God as Creator and its variety and our place within creation.

Invite each person in the group to thank God for specific things in creation which they particularly enjoy eg flowers, animals, the stars etc. You could also sing ‘You laid aside your majesty’ to focus on Jesus who has made us a new creation (see last week).

Word

1 Corinthians 12:12-31

Why do you think Paul uses the image of the body (human body) as an image for the church?
What was he trying to express? How do feet, hands, ears and eyes work together?
What happens when they don’t work together?
When we fall ill, how do we feel and what do we do?
Which is the most important part of the body?
How ought we to treat the body?
Who makes the body?

How does all this apply to the church (the Body of Christ)?
What happens when parts don’t work as they were intended?
How can we get the parts all to work together as the Body?
If Christ has no body on earth to do his work (because he is at the Father’s side), then does this indicate what things we should be doing?
How do we know what part of the Body we are?
How should we express the truth that all parts are equal in God’s eyes?
Why do we find it hard to believe that we all have a part to play?

Witness Use the gifts questionnaire to assess what people’s gifts are. Ask each member of the group to fill it in as per instructions. When they have added their scores, ask them to share the results. Affirm one another. Suggest how each person in the group should act on what they have discovered this session and then pray for one another.
