God's Call
3: Hearing God's Call

Welcome What was the best piece of advice you have ever been given?
Worship

Choose one of the following songs to either sing or listen to.
O Lord hear my prayer (Taize)
Dear Lord and Father of mankind (particularly last verse)

Listen to the following song, and spend some time thanking God that He wants to speak to us.

Open our eyes, Lord, we want to see Jesus,
to reach out and touch Him and say that we love Him.
Open our ears, Lord, and help us to listen.
Open our eyes, Lord, we want to see Jesus.

Word

1 Samuel 3

Was Samuel expecting to hear God speaking to him?
Do you expect to hear God speaking to you?
How did Samuel hear God’s call? (ie what did it sound like to Samuel?).
In what ways have you ever (if at all) been aware of God speaking to you?
When Samuel heard God speaking for the third time he said (on Eli’s advice): ‘Speak Lord for your servant is listening’. Do you specifically ask God to speak to you about situations you are facing?
What are some of the things which make it difficult for us to hear what God is saying?
How might we become more open to hearing what God is saying?

Witness Pray for each member of the group to hear God’s call in some specific aspect of their life over the next week or two, and report back next time you meet.
