God's Call
5: Surrendering to God's Call

Welcome Share about an occasion when you felt that you had “ bitten off more than you could chew”.
Worship

v1 In full and glad surrender
I give myself to Thee
Thine utterly and only
and evermore to be.

v2 O son of God, who lov’st me
I will be Thine alone;
and all I have and am, Lord,
shall henceforth be Thine own!

MP 330

Read these words together one verse at a time and then ask God to take away your doubts and lack of confidence in him. Ask God, day by day, to give you the courage follow him more fully.

Word

Exodus 3 and 4:1-17

Here we read of the call of Moses and his reluctance to surrender to God’s call. However, he does surrender and is used mightily by God.

3:11: Does the reply of Moses show that he is more uncertain about God or about himself?
3:16-22: Who is responsible for carrying out God’s plan?
What is the part to be played by God and what is the part to be played by Moses?
Have you ever felt certain that God has called you to a particular task?
Does the knowledge that God has called you make you more or less dependent on him?
In what ways does the knowledge that God is with you help you to surrender to his will?
4:13-14: Why is God so angry?
Why did God involve Aaron?
When God calls, he also equips: how do you think this is true?
Does our disobedience cause us to miss out on God’s gifts and how can we learn to be more dependent on God?
Have you ever felt you have failed to respond to God’s call?
What happened when Moses surrendered to God’s call?

Witness

As this is the last session, it would be worthwhile going round the group and asking them to share what they have learnt over the past few weeks. Do they now know what God has called them to do? Are they thinking about it? What else do they need to do now and in the future?

As a group pray that God will help you to surrender to his will. Pray that as a group you will seek his guidance. Ask God to speak to you as individuals and pray that you will have the courage to respond to his call.
