In Christ Alone
In Christ Alone Symphonic Tour at Liverpool Cathedral at 7.30 pm on Tuesday 21 October. Three of the world’s most popular and prolific hymn writers (Keith and Kristyn Getty plus Stuart Townsend) join forces with London’s All Souls Orchestra and the Merseyside Prom Praise Choir along with international speaker Alistair Begg for a night of inspiration and worship. ‘In Christ Alone’ and ‘How deep the Father’s love’ are but two of the most well-loved modern hymns that have come from their pens. There will be plenty of audience participation, with sheet music for new hymns and songs in the accompanying programme and a golden mission opportunity of the highest quality as the Gospel story will be presented through music and words. St Luke’s will be taking a coach to this event. Tickets are priced at £15, £10 and £8. Put the date in your diary now. Eric will be ordering the tickets in September.

Work in the Grounds
There is the possibility of getting further funding for the grounds. When we consulted on plans for the community garden last year, someone suggested that we improve the grassed area by the hall too. We are. So it is proposed to construct a path from the disabled car parking spaces through the grassed area, running close to the side of the hall, to the community garden. This would give direct access for people in wheelchairs to the garden. We could also provide spaces for seats which would be cut into the ‘daffodil bank’. This would help us to make more use of this grassed area when we have church picnics/barbeques. Let me know if you would like more information or if you have any comments on this by next Sunday (27 July) please.

Green Tip
How green is your home? You would be surprised how much energy electrical equipment consumes when they are left on standby. Do you switch them off at the wall when you have finished using them? Perhaps access to the socket isn’t within easy reach—look at www.byebyestandby.co.uk for switching sockets off remotely. Try out their Energy Calculator—switching all appliances off when not in use can save you £37 a year and help reduce carbon dioxide emissions.

Legacy
St Luke’s Church has received a legacy from the estate of Dora Parr to the sum of £14,500 with a smaller amount to follow for which we are very appreciative and will put it towards good use.

Paving Flags
—going, going …! There are spare paving flagstones (and pieces of flags) now that the path has been re-laid through down the graveyard. These are piled up at the end of the car park between the community garden and the entrance to the graveyard. If you can use these, please help yourself, but do not remove any of the grave ‘kerbstones’ or urns! Speak to Steve Matthews for more information.

Green Tip
Matthew 6:24-25 ‘Don’t store up treasures on earth, where they can be eaten by moths and get rust and where thieves break in to steal. Store your treasure in heaven…’
A large amount of clothing and cloth is disposed of each year, have you thought about—taking your unwanted clothes to charity shops, clothing banks or jumble sales? Have you thought about only buying clothes that you really need and perhaps second hand?

Prom Praise
A big thank you, once again, to Eric Linford for all he did organising this amazing event. It has touched the hearts and minds of so many, not just here at St Luke's but across Merseyside. Whilst there were very many who contributed to the overall success of the weekend, it was down to one person's sustained commitment over a long period of time: well done Eric!

Tear Fund
We will be having a collection throughout the month for TEAR Fund's disaster fund, which is working with those affected by Cyclone Nargis in Myanmar (Burma), those affected by lack of food in Ethiopia/Somalia/Kenya and the suffering people of Zimbabwe and Darfur.
