Parochial Church Council

Report of PCC meeting held on Tuesday 11 March 2008

Ray Terry reported that structural engineers were writing a report about the main church roof. Once this report was received, the PCC would meet again to discuss whether we should re-roof it in felt or slate. PCC also agreed that the vestry roof should be use the same material.

The PCC agreed to purchase the proposed house for the curate now that the survey had been completed and would instruct solicitors to proceed to the next stage with a view to completion at the end of April. The PCC agreed to take out a loan from Charity Bank for this.

Eric Linford reported that our Giving in Grace target of an extra £200 per week had been reached. He was pleased to report 10 new givers but noted that there were still a number of replies outstanding. He also reported a substantial donation of £25,000 had been received from a church member and there was likely to be a sum of about £15,000 from Dora Parr's estate: we praise God for his provision!

The PCC's annual accounts (subject to independent examination) and annual report for 2007 were approved. A small group of members had met to discuss the church's Annual Parochial Church Meeting on Wednesday 16 April and they had suggested ways in which it could be enhanced: PCC members were invited to speak at services about their work and a theme of the meeting would be 'finding faith'.

The PCC agreed to donate £10,000 to St Luke's Halsall School for phase I of its building development.

The PCC agreed that the boundaries of Sefton deanery did not currently enable the mission of the church in our local area and suggested that we should become part of Bootle deanery instead.

The PCC affirmed its commitment to admitting children to communion before confirmation and Ali Dobson, children's co-ordinator on SMT, would now take this forward in consultation with children's leaders and the congregation.
