Parochial Church Council Report of PCC meeting held on Wednesday 20 May 2009 The first meeting of the new PCC began with a service of Holy Communion. They welcomed its new members, Dean Hegarty and Andrew Tate, and saw samples of the carpet that will be laid in the new vestry. The officers for standing committee were elected:
Linda McDowell was co-opted to be secretary. Shirley Wallin explained her work as administrator and as a member of the Shared Ministry Team (SMT). The PCC were grateful for this insight and expressed their great gratitude for all she and the volunteers in the office do. It was agreed to appoint Barbara Chambers as the Safeguarding Vulnerable Adults co-ordinator. Eric Linford reported that our general income and expenditure are balancing. It was agreed to pay the legal fees for the work required in furthering a lease agreement with Optisavers. The PCC reflected on the Gift Day weekend and the impact it has made on individuals and St Luke's as a whole. It was agreed to hold a service of thanksgiving on Monday 1 June. A tender price was agreed for the church roof but this is subject to the building group meeting with the architect to discuss details. It was agreed to also look into renewing the fire alarm system and the lighting whilst this work was being carried out. During September, October and November we will not be able to use the church building and each congregation will need to decide where they will worship. Pam Stubbs reported on the Deanery Synod meeting held on May 18th and how she felt that that the deanery was now moving forward and co-operating in mission. The PCC would need to discuss in July a response but she noted that churches around us in the southern cluster were making youth a priority. As a result of our promise to give away 10% of what we spend on the re-ordering of St Luke's, it was agreed to give £5000 to Father Simeon in Romania for his building project and £5000 to SWACA for a family worker. The World Mission group were asked to propose how we should give away another £10,000. The PCC received a report from Steve Matthews on the churchyard project (Breathing Places). They were thrilled with its progress and the impact it was having on the community. They also noted that 95% of the costs involved have come from outside funders and gifts in-kind. The date of the next meeting was agreed as Wednesday 8 July at 7.30 pm. this page was last modified on 24 May 2009 |
