Parochial Church Council

Report of PCC meeting held on Wednesday 7 October 2009

The PCC watched a DVD about Fresh Expressions of Church and then held a discussion on what they had learnt. It was agreed to seek the advice and support of Rev Canon Phil Potter, Director of Pioneer Ministry, in order to raise the congregation’s awareness. The PCC also agreed to consult the community, congregation and God (not necessarily in that order!) about their ideas for the future so that a vision can be formed.

The PCC agreed to give £6000 by 2011 to St Luke’s Halsall School for their new building plans.

The PCC agreed that money left over from the Gift Day in May would be used for phase 3 of our re-ordering. The PCC discussed the possibility of the new lighting system in church being wall-mounted and agreed to get further information. However, it could not be ready by the end of November as planned. They agreed to install a new fire detection system whilst the work on the roof was being done.

The treasurer, Eric Linford, reported that people were honouring their pledges from the Gift Day but there was still £14,000 to come in. We would need to apply for an interest-free loan from the Diocese to pay the VAT on the new roof.

He also reported that it was the General Fund that was causing concern in that the PCC have planned to give £5000 away to home and overseas charities before the end of December but there might not be enough to do so. The PCC agreed to ask the congregation to pray about this matter.

They also agreed to donate £4000 to Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Malawi and £4000 to St Luke’s Church West Derby for their church hall floor which is in need of repair (both recommended by World Mission group) to fulfil our commitment to give away 10% of what we will spend on the roof.
