World Mission Sunday 24 February 2008

Supporting our mission partners through prayer is such an important part of our work that we have decided to provide each member of the congregation with a copy of the prayers especially prepared for our services today. We hope that they will guide your prayers in the months to come. Remember each month we focus on a different mission - the focus month for March will be SWACA (Sefton Women's And Children's Aid).

Prayer for SAMS (South American Mission Society)
Lord, we give you thanks for the news that our mission partner Alejandro Mesco and his wife Doris will soon be moving into the newly built San Felipe Mission Centre in the Colca Canyon.
Alejandro also asks us to pray that the Lord will provide two more helpers for the work in the mission, so that his vision to bring the good news of Jesus to the poor people of the Colca Canyon will come to fruition.
Amen

Prayer for SWACA (Sefton Women’s and Children’s Aid)
Father God, we ask for your blessing on the work of SWACA. Guide all the staff in their daily work, give them patience and understanding. Be with the women and children who have need of the service, heal them in body, mind and spirit.
Thank you for all the volunteers who give so willingly of their time and help in so many ways.
We especially ask for your guidance Lord in these times of financial uncertainty. Help the people who face many difficult decisions in the coming weeks in order to continue to give the service that is so badly needed.
We ask these things in the name of Your dear son our Lord Jesus Christ.
Amen

Prayer for Malawi
We give thanks dear Lord for the dedication and sacrifice of Liz & Malcolm Molyneux as they serve you in Malawi.
We ask your blessing upon Malcolm as he continues his research into the treatment of malaria and for Liz working in the Queen Elizabeth's Children's Hospital in Blantyre.
We think of her with limited resources as she treats children in overcrowded conditions. We praise you that sufficient funds were found to build an extension to the children's ward.
Amen

Prayer for CMS (Church Mission Society)
Lord, we thank you for the work initiated by the Kimbers in Romania and we ask that you continue to bless the tireless work of Father Simeon. Give him the health and strength to continue his pioneering outreach programme and support services for children and old people.
Lord, we also pray for the material means to support this work and to provide better and larger facilities.
Amen

Prayer for the Children's Society
Lord, let us give thanks for the work of the Children's Society.
Although highlighted in December the society works continuously to support homeless teens and those on the margins of society.
Lord bless all those who work on the front line, give them strength and courage to continue this invaluable work.
Amen

Prayer for Toybox
Lord, thank you for the gifts of love and understanding. In this service today may we remember all staff working with the Toybox charity both in Bolivia and Guatemala.
Thank you for the help and support you give them each day, and for the joy and love you help to bring to children who have only known a life of abuse or misery.
Lord, we ask that through you, Toybox may continue to help mar more families to avoid life on the streets.
Amen

Prayer for Uganda
Lord, we remember the work of John Patterson in the Bunyaro Kitara Diocese, the orphans and the diocesan training project supported by St Luke's.
We also pray that a new link person with a heart and compassion for this much-needed support in Africa comes forward to enable St Luke's to continue its long association with the diocese.
Amen
