Kiss the Rain

As part of my daily devotions, I have started to learn Christian Meditation, not
mindfulness but a little like it. This morning as I tried to sit quietly, I was aware of my
tinnitus, which at times can be a real distraction. I decided to put on my favourite
piano music CD, “Best of Yiruma”. My meditation for the morning was God cares and
the verse from Matthew 10:29-31

What is the price of two sparrows—one copper coin? But not a single sparrow can fall to the ground without your Father knowing it. And the very hairs on your head are all numbered. So don’t be afraid; you are more valuable to God than a whole flock of sparrows.

At one point a new track started and as it played, I had a beautiful vision of a perfect
world.
The vision started over the sea; a deep blue sea turning turquoise as it washed onto
golden sand, waves one after another frilled white. Behind the beach were dunes;
row upon row of grass covered dunes, constantly changing as the gentle breeze
moved the sand. Beyond that I saw fields, some bright green, some filled with golden
crops gently moving while others were filled with multi coloured wild flowers, reds,
yellows and blues, dancing together. Skylarks sang, bees could be heard buzzing as
they visited the flowers and rabbits ran backwards and forwards across each field.
Moving further inland were the heather covered uplands, purple in the sunlight;
kestrels hovered and harriers danced and dived. Everywhere was filled with sun and
life.
The music changed, became faster and louder and I reached the mountains where
eagles soared and hares and deer roamed. The rock became dark grey and barren
against a vivid blue sky and white clouds. Snow was on the highest peaks.
Suddenly there was a discordant note in the music and what I saw changed.
I travelled over the mountains and on the other side humans raged against others,
the fields were dry and burnt. My feelings of peace deserted me as I watched. There
were no longer birds in the air or wildlife filled fields. The sky was no longer blue but
orange. I was sad and afraid. As the music ended, I tried to recapture those pictures
of a perfect world but they wouldn’t come.
The music had faded and a new track started. I felt an urgency to find the name of
the piece of music and to write down what I had seen. The piece of music is called
“Kiss the Rain”.
In our world today there are places of drought and places of flood, yet God didn’t
create it this way. There are places of famine and places of bounty, God didn’t create
it this way.
In the beginning God created the earth and all that lives on it and it was good, very
good.
We must pray for our world and do whatever we can to slow climate change; join
campaigns, be less wasteful, be aware of where our food comes from.
Please pray with me –

All powerful God,
you are present in the universe
and in the smallest of your creatures.
You embrace with your tenderness all that exists.
Pour out upon us the power of your love,
that we may protect life and beauty.
Fill us with your peace, that we may live
as brothers and sisters, harming no one.
O God of the poor,
help us to rescue the abandoned
and forgotten of this earth,
so precious in your eyes.
Bring healing to our lives,
that we may protect the world and not prey on it,
that we may sow beauty,
not pollution and destruction.
Touch the hearts
of those who look only for gain
at the expense of the poor and the earth.
Teach us to discover the worth of each thing,
to be filled with awe and contemplation,
to recognize that we are profoundly united
with every creature.
We thank you for being with us each day.
Encourage us, we pray, in our struggle,
for justice, love and peace.

Amen

This is not our world, we are simply stewards of God’s world.
